About
Taddy sells the plumbing that lets small creators reach several apps at once instead of one. Its podcast side is a directory of roughly four million shows behind a developer API, used by people building podcast apps who do not want to crawl RSS themselves. Its comics side hosts a creator's work and distributes it through SSS, an open-source comic specification Taddy publishes, so a comic can appear in more than one reader app without the creator negotiating with each. Taddy also builds Inkverse, a reader app for webcomics, on top of that same spec, and offers a Webcomics API alongside the podcast one. The company received an NRC IRAP grant from the Canadian government to extend SSS to support paid content. Daniel Mathews founded and builds it; he previously created the podcast discovery service Podyssey and was head iOS instructor at Lighthouse Labs.
Backers
No equity investors are named. The company states it received an NRC IRAP grant from the Canadian government to add paid-content support to its comic specification.
Quick answers
What does Taddy do?
It builds developer and creator infrastructure: an API over a directory of about four million podcasts, and a hosting and distribution platform that lets an independent comic creator publish to multiple reader apps through one open specification.
Who runs Taddy?
Daniel Mathews, its founder and software developer, in Vancouver. He earlier built the podcast discovery service Podyssey and taught iOS development at Lighthouse Labs.
Is Taddy a podcast company or a comics company?
Both, in sequence. The podcast API came first and still runs; the current product focus is hosting and distribution for independent comic creators, with the Inkverse reader app built on the same open spec.
Who from Taddy is in this directory?
Daniel Mathews, its founder, who demoed the podcast app Echo at TechVancouver in 2017.
