About
Vacation Fund started as a consumer idea — Erica Pearson has said she pitched it as 'Wealthsimple for people's travel goals' — and turned into a business-to-business employee benefit after Toronto tech CEOs told her they would rather fund it themselves. Employees set a payroll deduction into a Vacation Fund account; the employer matched a percentage of the contribution up to an annual cap, and could set a vesting period before the matched money could be withdrawn. Pearson demoed it at TravelTechTO in May 2018, describing the relaunch as a benefit on 1 December, a typical employer match of 50 per cent, caps around $500, and vesting periods of six months to a year used as a retention lever. CBC reported in 2019 that at least nine Canadian organizations had adopted it, with matches capped between $500 and $1,000 a year. The company's website no longer resolves as of August 2026 and no operating activity could be confirmed.

Quick answers
What was Vacation Fund?
An employee benefit that let staff route part of their after-tax pay into a dedicated vacation savings account, with the employer matching a percentage of the contribution up to an annual cap.
Why did employers offer it?
Pearson's account on stage was that employers raised two problems — staff burning out without taking their vacation days, and competing for talent — and saw a matched vacation fund as a relatively inexpensive benefit that addressed both.
Is Vacation Fund still operating?
Its website no longer resolves as of August 2026 and no recent activity could be sourced. This page describes the company as it was documented between 2018 and 2019.
