About

Wavy sells software and experiences that companies use to run team culture for people who are not in the same room. It did not start there. When Wavy demoed at TravelTechTO in February 2019, Shawn Hewat showed an app that gave travellers and locals recommendations on the go by working with local experts to surface their favourite things to do in their own city. BetaKit dates the company to 2018, founded as Wavy Travel Inc. by Hewat, Neshay Ahmed and Peter Kotzeff. As it curated those local experiences, companies started asking to book them for their teams, and at the end of 2019 Wavy pivoted into workplace culture; its Experience Marketplace launched in spring 2020 and had engaged more than 10,000 employees by April 2022, when the company raised a C$2.5 million seed round led by Laconia Capital. It took further growth funding from Vancouver's Weave VC in October 2024. Customers named in its own announcements include Shopify, Deloitte, Intuit, Intact, Wattpad and Loopio.

Backers

Laconia Capital (seed lead), Garage Capital, Two Small Fish Ventures, Archangel, Backbone Angels, and Weave VC, which led a growth round in October 2024.
