Wirkn

Wirkn was a mobile hiring platform for retail, restaurant and hospitality shift work, connecting frontline job seekers with employers across North America. Founded in 2014 with Derek Szeto as CEO, it grew to thousands of hiring locations and was acquired by JobGet in June 2024.

Acquired — Acquired by JobGet, which folded Wirkn into its retail hiring footprint. wirkn.com has since lapsed and now redirects to an unrelated sports-betting site, so the company link points at the acquisition announcement instead.

About

Wirkn built a mobile app to change how retail, hospitality and shift-based workers find jobs, taking an end-user-driven approach rather than a top-down corporate one. Derek Szeto, founder of RedFlagDeals.com, joined as CEO when the company raised its seed round in 2014, and the platform launched with pilot partners including Aldo Group brands. It grew across North America to a large network of mall, retail and restaurant hiring locations, and was acquired by Boston-based hiring platform JobGet in June 2024, with the Wirkn brand continuing under new ownership.

Backers

Seed-funded (reported ~US$400K in 2014); Quebec HR services firm DRAKKAR was named on stage as an early investor and partner. Acquired by JobGet in June 2024
