In their words
I originally was a designer, and then realized that if I wanted to build things, I had to learn how to code. So I taught myself how to code initially, was a front-end developer, then got really deep into iOS development.
I'm just really excited about the idea of empowering non-creators to feel more creative — people who might not raise their hands and call themselves creative — and also making people who are creative a bit more productive.
One of the things that excites me most about video is just how difficult a creative problem it is. There are so many challenges, from shooting content to editing it, to color, to typography, to motion.

Quick answers
Who is Champ Bennett?
Co-founder and CEO of Capsule, which he started in 2021 — his third company in creative technology after PHHHOTO, the animated-GIF camera app and social network, and Hypno, the camera and photo-booth business its team pivoted into.
What did Capsule do first?
Community video. He explained on the TechTO stage in March 2021 that a business could create a "capsule" — a gallery around a question or theme — send the link to its community, collect video answers and have Capsule automatically edit them into professional-looking clips with music, graphics and personalization.
How did he get into building software?
As a designer who wanted to ship. He taught himself to code, worked as a front-end developer, moved into iOS and pushed some of the first apps to the App Store — and mentioned on stage that Steve Jobs was once a beta tester of his.
