Peter Drucker came up with one thing I really like: apply systematic abandonment. That is my number one lesson in life — there are points in your business career where you have got to let go.
I had one in this company and it was an 18-month lesson and a million dollars of budget overrun. We eventually came up with the solution past the 18-month mark, but think of all the opportunities we missed pursuing it. The biggest lesson I learned was my stupid ego.
If your market has adoption of one percent and you have six competitors slugging it out, get out of it. You are not going to succeed.
