In their words
Sometimes bad things happen to good robots. And you got to be careful with the conclusion you draw here.
you don't know where your journey is going to take you. You just have to start.
where does my attention go? Where do I find myself constantly spending time and thinking about in my spare time when I can't stop thinking about that idea. That's how I know it's the thing that I want to keep working on.

Quick answers
Who is Colin Gagich?
Co-founder and CEO of Inference Labs, which builds verifiable-inference infrastructure so an application can prove which AI model actually answered. Before it he co-founded CENG Technologies and co-created hitchBOT, the social robot that hitchhiked across Canada, the US, Germany and the Netherlands.
What did he say on the TechTO stage?
In September 2025 he told the hitchBOT story — built from a garbage can, pool noodles and rubber gloves, picked up within five minutes of being left by a Halifax roadside, destroyed in Philadelphia two weeks into its US trip — and used it to frame the question his current company works on: can we trust AI, and can AI trust us?
What is Inference Labs?
A Hamilton, Ontario company founded in 2023 by Gagich and Ron Chan, building infrastructure for verifiable AI inference on blockchains. It raised $2.3 million in pre-seed funding announced in April 2024.
