Who is Gregory Levey?
He is a co-founder of Figure 1, the case-sharing app for health professionals, and was its first chief executive. Toronto Metropolitan University's faculty page describes him as an associate professor of professional communication and the founding CEO of Figure 1. TechCrunch called him Figure 1's co-founder and CEO in April 2017, and The Globe and Mail described CEO Greg Levey as a Ryerson University communications professor in 2015.
How did Figure 1 start?
BetaKit reported in 2014 that Joshua Landy returned to Toronto in 2013 and partnered with software developer Richard Penner and former journalist Gregory Levey to launch a platform for sharing medical photos without compromising patient privacy. A 2024 Toronto Metropolitan University article says the idea took shape as Levey finished his MBA at Columbia Business School, and that the startup found its first home at the university's Digital Media Zone, with Levey as CEO.
How did Figure 1 raise its first money?
In an August 2014 BetaKit article, Levey said the first exchanges with Andy Weissman, a partner at Union Square Ventures, happened over Twitter. BetaKit reported that Weissman helped set up Figure 1's $2 million seed round and introduced the company to other investors.
What happened to Figure 1?
Physician's Weekly announced it had acquired Figure 1 on February 22, 2024. In a March 2024 Toronto Metropolitan University article, Levey said he was glad the company now had a permanent home that wanted to keep growing its capabilities and scope.
