In their words
We raised our first fund successfully four years ago at 60 million. We invested in 20 great companies, and our very last investment, number 20, was Railz.
We went on a founder's journey ourselves. We put in five million of general partner money and we raised the rest of it on our own. Raising a fund is a little different, and it's a lot more humbling.
Core to our thesis was understanding that the financial landscape is in an evolution and needs to change, particularly as it relates to delivering services at a lower cost, using data to eliminate the friction points, and ultimately improve the outcome for the customer.

Quick answers
Who is Ian Sheridan?
Co-founder and managing partner of Vestigo Ventures, the Cambridge, Massachusetts fintech fund he started in 2016 with Mark Casady and David Blundin. He came to venture after roughly 35 years operating in asset management, insurance and wealth technology, including at DST and PFPC/PNC.
How does Vestigo decide what to invest in?
A data pipeline plus incumbent reference calls. Sheridan told TechTO the firm sources and underwrites using clickstream data and predictive models built with Cogo Labs, then spends diligence asking banks, insurers and brokerages whether they would partner with, build or buy what the startup is selling.
Why was he on the TechTO stage?
He appeared on Founders & Funding on 2020-11-06 with Sohaib Zahid of Railz, the Toronto accounting-data API that was Vestigo's twentieth and final investment out of its first fund. The show pairs a founder with the investor who backed them.
