About

Vestigo Ventures invests at seed and Series A in financial-technology companies — including insurance technology — across the United States and Canada, from offices in Kendall Square, Cambridge, across from MIT. Ian Sheridan co-founded it in 2016 with Mark Casady, the former CEO and chairman of LPL Financial, and David Blundin, founder and chairman of Cogo Labs. What distinguishes its sourcing is the data: the firm works with Cogo Labs' clickstream panels and predictive algorithms to spot early traction, then layers on operator diligence, asking incumbent banks, insurers and brokerages whether they would partner with a company before investing. Fund I closed at $58.9 million in August 2018 and made 20 investments; Sheridan told TechTO in November 2020 that the twentieth and last was Railz, the Toronto accounting-data API, and that a second fund had raised $80 million and was expected to close by year end. Sheridan appeared on Founders & Funding with Railz co-founder Sohaib Zahid.

Backers

A venture fund rather than an operating company; its limited partners are not disclosed publicly. Sheridan said on the TechTO stage that the general partners put $5 million of their own money into the first fund.
