When I first met him: can I be myself? Can I say an idea that I think could be stupid that he's not going to judge me for? Is he giving me feedback on everything that I say? And then from that — it's not that we had a great partnership from the start. We really developed it.
This is what I call having a pair but playing like you have a full house.
So what you'll learn in a startup is that you never know and you can't predict your fate. What you can do is evaluate your odds and make decisions that will only increase those odds. Sometimes you fold, sometimes you call, and sometimes you bluff.
