Quick answers
Who is Jayiesh Singh?
Co-founder and CEO of Able Innovations, the Toronto company behind the ALTA Platform — a robotic device that moves non-ambulatory patients between beds and stretchers without anyone lifting them. He is a University of Toronto mechanical engineer and spent eight years at Morgan Solar before starting the company.
Why did he start Able Innovations?
His mother works in long-term care and was injured repeatedly moving residents. He told the TechTO stage in August 2025 that he kept asking who was solving it and never got an answer: 'It's low tech. It's unsexy, but there must be a solution.'
Is Able Innovations venture-backed?
No. Singh said on stage that investors could not price a market whose incumbent product is a bedsheet, so he bootstrapped instead: 'people chase venture capital as a validation, but that's not the goal. The goal is to provide value and sell.' (TechTO, August 2025)
