Jesus Zozaya co-founded Voltera in 2013 with three other University of Waterloo engineering students, after a class project spun into a company making desktop circuit-board printers. He was chief technology officer from the company's start and became chief executive in October 2022. Voltera's own February 2026 announcement still identifies him as CEO and co-founder.

Did Jesus Zozaya co-found Voltera?

Yes. Voltera's own about-us page, checked September 2026, states the company was "Founded in 2013 by Jesus Zozaya, Katarina Ilic, James Pickard, and Alroy Almeida." The University of Waterloo's Velocity incubator profile for Voltera also lists him as a founder and records the company joining Velocity in 2013.

Is he Voltera's CEO today?

The most recent confirmations are Voltera's own press release of February 25, 2026, which quotes "Jesus Zozaya, CEO and co-founder of Voltera", and a Government of Canada announcement of January 14, 2026 that identifies him as "CEO and Co-Founder, Voltera Inc." and carries a quote from him. Nothing published since reports a change.

What was his role before becoming CEO?

Chief technology officer. Voltera's announcement of November 24, 2022 says he "is a co-founder of the company and has held the title of Chief Technology Officer since Voltera's inception in 2013", and that he had stepped into the CEO role the previous month.

How did Voltera get started?

In an RBCx interview published March 6, 2024 he said "there were four of us" and "We started in 2013 -- three of us were in the mechatronics program and one of us was in the nanotechnology program", describing a University of Waterloo class project that spun off into the company.
