In their words
When everyone was going right, we decided to go left, and we decided to focus on surgery. That allowed us to build category leadership and is one of the best decisions we've ever made.
It took us 12 months to get our first hospital contract, and there are many companies that just can't wait or can't survive that long.
I've come to believe that no matter what type of leader you want to be, no matter what industry or organization, you must learn to be a great salesperson.

Quick answers
Who is Joshua Liu?
A Toronto physician-turned-founder. He is co-founder and CEO of SeamlessMD, a digital care journey platform for health systems, which he started in 2012 through the Next 36 program after earning his MD at the University of Toronto.
Is Joshua Liu a doctor?
He trained as one. He earned his MD from the University of Toronto in 2013 and left medicine instead of practising. As he put it on the TechTO stage in 2018, he 'just finished my training and just as quickly left medicine' to build SeamlessMD with co-founders Philip Chen and Willie Kwok.
What does Joshua Liu say about selling healthcare software to hospitals?
Start smaller. He told the TechTO stage it took SeamlessMD 12 months to land its first hospital contract, and that with hindsight he'd have spent the first year with surgery clinics building evidence before approaching large institutions.
How many times has Joshua Liu spoken at TechTO?
Twice: a 2017 HealthTO talk on building a new category in health, and a June 2018 talk on why a CEO needs to be a good salesperson.
