Did Kevin Kimsa co-found ScaleUP Ventures?
Yes. A ScaleUP news post dated October 16, 2018, checked September 23, 2026, says the firm "was founded in 2016 by General Partners Kent Thexton and Kevin Kimsa with $106 million of committed capital". His ScaleUP bio calls him a founding general partner and says the fund was ideated by former Rogers CEO Nadir Mohamed. The Globe and Mail reported on November 9, 2020 that Mohamed and Sheldon Levy created ScaleUP in 2016.
What is his role today?
Climate Innovation Capital's team page, checked September 23, 2026, lists him as "Co-Founder & Managing Partner" and says he co-founded ScaleUP Ventures after serving as a managing director at OMERS Ventures. ScaleUP's own team page, checked the same day, still lists him as managing partner.
What happened to ScaleUP Ventures?
The Globe and Mail reported on November 9, 2020 that ScaleUP would become Climate Innovation Capital and try to raise US$500 million for climate technology, with existing staff managing the ScaleUP portfolio until it winds down. The paper said Kimsa was driving the change and quoted him: "I have a bigger calling now and … that calling is related to the climate."
What did he build before ScaleUP?
His ScaleUP bio, checked September 23, 2026, says he founded Solect Technology Group, an ISP billing company acquired by Amdocs for $1.6 billion, and later founded Casero Software and AudienceView Ticketing. It says he was one of three managing directors at OMERS Ventures from 2013 through 2015, and that he graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1988 in mathematics.
