Marc Boscher is the co-founder and CEO of Unito, the Montreal company that keeps work tools in two-way sync — a task edited in Jira changes in Asana and back. In their words

I'm a big believer in distributed decision making in the organization. If you're able to have the people that are closest to the work and the information have all the information to make a decision, then it's much more efficient.

I don't think transparency means consensus-based decision making.

It actually ran in a Chrome extension, and it would sync two tools like Asana and GitHub at the time. If you shut down your browser, your computer would stop syncing.

Quick answers

What does Unito do?

It syncs data two ways between work tools — Jira, Asana, Salesforce, HubSpot and 60-plus others — so a team can stay in the tool it prefers without the data going stale in the others.

How did Unito start?

As Boscher's own itch. He was a product manager who wanted visibility into what other teams were doing without leaving his tools. The first version was a Chrome extension that stopped syncing when you closed the browser, and it found users through the Chrome Store.

What did he say about culture at TechTO?

That the best things in culture cost time rather than money, and that Unito signed a new office lease and built it out during the pandemic while most companies were going fully remote — a bet he described as risky.
