In their words
Being an advisor is very rewarding in some respects, but it's other people's problems you're solving. It wasn't rewarding in the sense of being a protagonist in my own contribution to the world.
There was a moment in time at which we sat at a whiteboard and said, listen, this is how capital raise transactions should be done.
It's all done manually and it's all done offline. The more investors a company is trying to bring in, the more paper piles up, and it piles up on the desk of a lawyer.

Quick answers
What does DealMaker do?
It runs online capital raises for companies — the subscription paperwork, investor eligibility checks, payments and investor records that used to move as paper through a lawyer's office. Goldstein co-founded it with Rebecca Kacaba in 2016.
What did he do before DealMaker?
He practised law for about ten years, the first half in New York after law school and the second in Toronto, advising clients on capital-markets regulation on both sides of the border.
How did the company start?
On a whiteboard, he told TechTO. He and Kacaba mapped how capital raises should work, then looked for a technical partner because neither of them was an engineer.
