Did Michael Sanders co-found Horizon Blockchain Games, now Sequence?
Yes. Horizon's own team page (horizon.io/about, Wayback capture 2023-12-07) listed five co-founders with titles: Peter Kieltyka "Co-founder + CEO", Ian Ha "Co-founder + Head of Operations", William Hua "Co-founder + Chief Scientist", Daniel Racca "Co-founder + Head of Design" and Michael Sanders "Co-founder + Chief Storyteller". BetaKit's report on the company's $40 million USD Series A (2022-10-04) calls him "Horizon co-founder and chief storyteller", and Metaverse Post (2023-06-21) lists the same five founders.
What did a chief storyteller do at Horizon?
Horizon's team page bio (horizon.io/about, Wayback capture 2023-12-07) put it this way: "Michael connects the dots, bridges worlds, and tells the Horizon story through narrative, lore, brand and marketing." It said he "first fell in love with blockchain technologies in 2010" and became an investor in cryptocurrencies and related startups in 2013, after earlier co-founding a clean energy startup and serving as VP of the ClearMedia advertising agency. Speaking to BetaKit in October 2022 about Skyweaver, he said "It took us over four years to get Skyweaver into an open beta state where we were playtesting rigorously".
What happened to Sequence?
Polygon Labs is buying it. On 2026-01-13 Fortune reported that Polygon Labs "has closed deals to buy the crypto startups Coinme and Sequence" for a combined total of more than $250 million, describing Sequence as Toronto-based (a 2026-01-14 correction fixed an earlier New York reference). Sequence's own announcement the same day said the deal was "subject to customary closing conditions" and expected to close "in the coming weeks", and as of 2026-10-24 sequence.xyz still carries the banner "Polygon Labs is acquiring Sequence to power the Open Money Stack." BetaKit (2026-01-13) notes the company was "Founded in 2017 as a blockchain gaming startup called Horizon" and renamed itself Sequence as the developer platform became its main product.
Has Michael Sanders spoken at TechTO?
No. The company's TechTO connection is co-founder Ian Ha, who sat on the TechTO panel "What is Holding Web3 Back?" on 2023-03-22. Sanders has given interviews elsewhere, including BlockchainGamer.biz at GDC 2023 and in March 2024, and The Blockchain Show podcast in June 2023.
