In their words

I had my own company which is still around I'm no longer super involved with it it's a startup back in Australia called bubblegum interactive

I think it's fundamentally important that as a startup you actually are able to articulate this

TechWaterloo, Nov 2016 · watch at 3:25

if you distill down a successful startup team especially in early stages you need three types of people you need a dreamer typically the founder or the person who maybe had the original idea

Quick answers

What were the three lessons?

Told at TechWaterloo in October 2016: know your startup's story well enough to say it in a sentence — he read out a real mission statement of about fifty buzzwords and then a good one; build a team of complementary types rather than clones; and expect it all to take far longer than planned. He wrote an Airbnb positioning statement live to show how quick the exercise is.

What did he do before Maluuba?

He co-founded Bubble Gum Interactive, a Sydney games studio, after working at the Walt Disney Company; SmartCompany reported in December 2011 that he raised angel, venture and grant money for it. He then moved to Canada and spent about three years at Kik, joining at roughly 25 people and leaving when it was around 150, working on partnerships, business development and the bot platform.

What is Paul Gray doing now?

Not established. This page does not publish from LinkedIn or contact-data aggregators. Maluuba itself no longer operates independently — Microsoft announced its acquisition in January 2017, a few months after this talk.
