I've seen some massive projects, I've seen massive project failures. I was recently advising on a $1.5 billion software build that had lots of headaches. This problem has never gone away — it's the same today as it was when I started writing software 40 years ago.
The existing tools out there aren't getting the job done, so we're going to go build it ourself.
