Quick answers

Who is Roxana Zaman?

She is a co-founder of Maple, the Toronto company that connects Canadians to doctors online, and its chief operating officer. Maple's About page lists her as Co-founder & Chief Operating Officer and describes her as a P&L manager with broad experience in Canadian banking.

How did she become a co-founder of Maple?

In a March 2018 interview with She Does The City, Zaman said that in 2015 she sat down with her friend Dr. Brett Belchetz and his friend Stuart Starr, who had built a prototype and needed a business person to write a business plan and raise money. She made her case, became the third co-founder and put her banking career on hold. She told WiFi HiFi in 2021 that after six years at TD she chose between staying, an MBA abroad, or helping start Maple.

What is her background?

She told She Does The City that her family immigrated from Romania to Canada in 2001, when she was eleven, and that she attended Simon Fraser University in Vancouver before joining TD Bank through a leadership development program. The Digital Enterprise's 2019 interview says she graduated in 2010 with a joint major in finance and economics and worked as a product and P&L manager in TD's real estate secured lending business.

What has she said about raising money?

In an October 2019 Glory Media interview about Maple's funding rounds, Zaman said that early on, fundraising is "a lot more about the vision and the team" and about finding people who believe in you, and that many of Maple's first investors believed in what the company could do for health care.
