Simon and I met way back 20 years ago, working for one of the largest long-term care providers in North America, and we sort of got the entrepreneurial bug and decided we were going to build something ourselves in the health care space.

What did eSSENTIAL Accessibility do?
It gave developers and digital teams the tools and guidance to build websites, apps and other digital assets that people with disabilities can actually use — screen-reader friendly, compliant with accessibility law, and usable regardless of ability.
Where did the idea come from?
Health care. Spiro Papathanasakis and Simon Dermer met working for a large long-term care provider and later owned small health care businesses. Seeing what people needed to get back to daily activities after an injury led them to digital assistive technology.
What is Level Access?
The digital accessibility company eSSENTIAL Accessibility merged with in 2022. Papathanasakis is co-founder and chief strategy officer there.
