Timing is everything. 2004 was when we started Bugbitten, which was a photo-sharing site way ahead of its time — 20,000 photos a day back in 2004 being uploaded, but no way to monetize it.
We saw the hotels, the flights, the car hire industries all digitizing, so all going online, but the multi-day touring was always done through a travel agent.

Co-founder and CEO of TourRadar, an online platform for booking multi-day organised tours. He is a mechanical engineer by training, originally from the Northern Territory in Australia, and has been based in Vienna for over a decade.

His first company, started in 2004: a photo-sharing and travel-journal site for Australians and New Zealanders living in London. He told TechTO it reached 20,000 photo uploads a day with no way to make money from them, and that noticing how many of those photos came from tours is what led to TourRadar.
