About
Founded in Kitchener in 2015 by Martin, Meti and Massi Basiri, ApplyBoard raised a C$375M Series D in June 2021 and appeared on TechTO's Canadian Rocketship podcast weeks later. Martin Basiri stepped down as CEO in 2022 and his brother Meti took over. The business has since contracted: valuation fell from roughly $3.2B in 2021 to under $1B by 2024, and the company cut more than 150 staff in 2025 as study-permit policy tightened across major destinations.
Backers
Raised $18M Series A (2018), $55M Series B (2019), $100M Series C (2020) and C$375M Series D (June 2021). Basiri said on the TechTO stage that Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan led the Series D — lead attribution is stage-sourced, not independently confirmed.
