About

Autonomic was founded in 2016 by Sunny Madra and Amar Varma, who had previously built and sold the Toronto mobile shop Xtreme Labs. The company was headquartered in Palo Alto with Toronto-based founders, and built the Transportation Mobility Cloud — a platform meant to sit under connected cars, transit, fleets and city infrastructure so that services could be built on top of vehicle data rather than inside each carmaker's own stack. Ford announced it was acquiring Autonomic in January 2018, as part of the push behind its commitment to connect its vehicles, and the business was folded fully into Ford by 2023. Varma spoke at a TechTO event in November 2019 with Alex Norman about the economics of exits, drawing on the Autonomic sale and his earlier one.

Backers

Venture-backed before the sale; the round details and investors are not confirmed here. Ford announced its acquisition of the company in January 2018 and had integrated it fully by 2023.
