About
Erich Ko, Boyd Reid and Erwin Komguem founded the company in Markham in 2018 out of Ko's parents' basement. The first product was a hitchhiking app and it signed up nobody; surveying employers instead revealed that labour shortages in manufacturing and distribution were partly commuting problems — about a quarter of people who quit a frontline job do so because the commute is unworkable. The company now sells workforce analytics — recruitment heatmaps, commute-risk modelling, expansion planning — alongside an operator platform that routes existing coach, taxi and rideshare fleets around employers' shift schedules, with a driver app, dispatch visibility and rider check-in. It presents itself as Hop In Tech on its own site and has also traded as Hop In Technologies. It operates from York University's YSpace incubator in Markham and has run pilots with OVIN and the City of Markham.
