About

BKR Capital is an early-stage venture fund based in Toronto that invests in Black-led Canadian technology companies. Isaac Olowolafe co-launched it in 2021 with early backing from BDC Capital, explicitly to address the systemic gap in venture funding available to Black founders in Canada; by 2022 the firm had secured over $18 million for that mandate. Olowolafe came to venture from real estate development, brokerage and property management, and had already been investing through Dream Maker Ventures, the early-stage firm he founded in 2015 whose second fund — 'The Diversity Fund' — backs founding teams that include people of colour, women, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, immigrant, refugee and Indigenous entrepreneurs. He holds an economics degree from the University of Toronto. Olowolafe joined a TechTO fireside panel in June 2024 alongside Graham Wong of LAUFT, Jonah Chininga of Woveo and Farnel Fleurant of Workind.
