About
Brex is one of the more substantial pieces of stage material in the archive: co-founder Henrique Dubugras sat down with Alex Norman on the TechVancouver stage in August 2019 for a 48-minute fireside on the Vancouver fintech landscape, raising capital, and hiring through hypergrowth. Brex had been founded two years earlier, in 2017, by Dubugras and Pedro Franceschi, two Brazilian founders who sold an earlier payments company before starting it. The product is a corporate card and spend-management platform aimed at startups and growth companies. In January 2026 Capital One agreed to acquire Brex in a cash-and-stock deal valued at US$5.15 billion, and completed it on 7 April 2026.
Backers
Venture-backed through eleven rounds before the sale, and owned by Capital One since April 2026.
