About
Buddybuild connected to a team's GitHub or Bitbucket repository and automated what happened after each push — building the app, running its tests, and getting a testable build into the hands of testers, along with crash reports and in-app user feedback. Dennis Pilarinos and Christopher Stott, both formerly of Amazon, founded the company in Vancouver in 2015 after finding that the tooling outside Amazon was worse than what they had left behind. It raised roughly US$8.8 million, including a US$7.6-million Series A led by Kleiner Perkins in May 2016. Apple announced the acquisition on 2 January 2018; the roughly 40-person engineering team stayed in British Columbia and joined Apple's Xcode group, and Android support was retired within months. Apple ended support for the standalone buddybuild service on 31 March 2021. Pilarinos described the exit on the TechVancouver stage in April 2019, saying the team staying in Vancouver had been a condition he would not negotiate.

Raised roughly US$8.8 million before the sale, led by Kleiner Perkins in a US$7.6-million Series A in May 2016.
