About
Canaray reads cone-beam CT scans for dentists and sends back annotated 3D reports. Milan Madhavji, an oral and maxillofacial radiologist, founded it in 2010 after finishing the University of Toronto's oral radiology program, and built the business around an unusual workflow: the dental office forwards the scan, and the patient — not the practice — orders the report and pays for it, so the office never handles the fee. The company says its reports are used by 4,600+ dentists and that it has produced 450,000 of them; a study-club bio puts adoption at one in four dentists in Ontario. On the HealthTO stage in May 2017 Madhavji used his own clinics as a worked example of problems he thinks health-care providers keep re-creating — radiology reports delivered as a wall of text rather than an annotated image, and appointment systems that hide the real wait from the patient.
