About

Casalova was built in Toronto from 2014 by Ray Taeeb and Curtis Layne as the first Canadian app that let a renter search, book and pay for a rental entirely online, with a rent guarantee for landlords. It came out of the DMZ at what was then Ryerson, expanded from rentals into buying, selling and property management, and acquired MyPropertyManagers with about $35 million in assets under management. Aviva Ventures invested $2.5 million in 2017. Taeeb's TechTO talk in April 2017 was mostly about the years before any of that: working 6pm to 2am on the side until they quit, moving to Dallas and selling everything, and being down to roughly $200 in the bank before an accelerator cheque of $35,000 landed. He used a Chinese bamboo analogy for it — five years of watering before ninety feet of growth in five weeks — against a tech press that reports the ninety feet and not the five years. The company is no longer operating: casalova.com redirected to a domain-parking lander when checked on 4 August 2026.

Backers

Aviva Ventures invested $2.5 million in 2017. Earlier funding included a $35,000 accelerator cheque Taeeb described on stage. The full cap table was not confirmed.
