About

Charitable Impact is a Vancouver giving platform founded by John Bromley in 2011, originally under the name Chimp (a blend of 'charitable' and 'impact'). It gives everyday donors free giving accounts that function like personal foundations: donors add money, hold it, and grant to any registered Canadian charity on their own terms. Bromley's argument, which he made on the TechVancouver stage in 2016, is that traditional fundraising has financed charities well but failed to build a real culture of giving, because people mostly give only when asked. As a donor-advised structure it has moved more than $220 million to charities. Bromley started his career in corporate finance at PwC and RBC Capital Markets before working with charity-law experts.
