About
Coinsquare grew from a platform Virgile Rostand built himself into one of Canada's largest regulated crypto venues. Leah Carr, employee 11, told the FintechTO stage in January 2018 that 300 to 500 people a day were signing up when she joined the previous September. In 2020 CEO Cole Diamond and Rostand both stepped down under an Ontario Securities Commission settlement over market manipulation and misleading investors. Coinsquare combined with WonderFi and CoinSmart in July 2023, with the merged company consolidating under Coinsquare's dealer registration. Robinhood completed its acquisition of WonderFi — and so of Coinsquare and Bitbuy — in 2026 for C$250 million.
