Core

Core is a Bitcoin-aligned, EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain that lets Bitcoin holders earn yield without giving up custody. Its Satoshi Plus consensus elects validators through three delegations — CORE token holders, Bitcoin miners directing hash power, and Bitcoin holders timelocking coins. Mainnet launched in January 2023.

About

Core describes itself as "the Bitcoin Everything Chain that transforms idle Bitcoin into a productive, yield-generating asset." The technical claim underneath is Satoshi Plus: instead of picking either Bitcoin's proof of work or a proof-of-stake system, validators are elected by three groups at once — CORE holders locking tokens, Bitcoin miners pointing hash power, and Bitcoin holders timelocking coins while keeping custody.

The project was founded in 2022 and launched mainnet in January 2023. Its founding team is anonymous, which is unusual enough to say plainly: there is no named founder to check. Core's own site claims the #1 Bitcoin DeFi ecosystem, median gas under a cent, and more than a million weekly active users.

Brendon Sedo is an initial contributor to Core. He co-founded Toronto's Joist and led it to a 2020 acquisition by EverCommerce, and spoke on the TechTO stage in September 2018 as Joist's CEO.

Backers

No investor list is published by the project, and the founding team is anonymous. Core is a token network rather than a company with disclosed rounds.
