About
Rubsun Ho founded Crowdmatrix in Toronto in 2015, after leaving Cognition LLP, the alternative law firm he co-founded. The idea was to do for Canadian private markets what AngelList had done in the United States — BetaKit's headline at the time had Ho wanting to be 'the AngelList of Canada' — by putting vetted private deals and funds in front of accredited investors online rather than through a broker's rolodex. The platform is a registered exempt market dealer in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta, and venture funds including Plaza Ventures and Extreme Venture Partners have raised on it. Ho spoke at TechTO in April 2016 on the myths of leaving a stable career to start a company — five reasons not to do it, and why some people should anyway.
