About
DCVC, originally Data Collective, was built on a specific bet: that the industries hardest to disrupt — energy, agriculture, materials, biology, manufacturing, defence — would be opened by computational approaches rather than by software layered on top of them. Matt Ocko and Zachary Bogue founded it in 2011 in Palo Alto and still lead it.
The firm reports roughly $4 billion in assets under management across 13 funds, and more than 200 companies backed over its history — a portfolio that has included Square, Uber, Zoom, Fortinet and AngelList alongside its deep tech core.
Linda Maxwell is an operating partner at DCVC. A head and neck surgeon, she founded the Biomedical Zone, Canada's first hospital-embedded health technology incubator, as a partnership between Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan University) and St. Michael's Hospital, and profiled that work on TechTO's HealthTO stage in April 2017.
Backers
DCVC is itself an investor. It manages roughly $4 billion across 13 funds; its limited partners are not published.
