About
DOZR came out of the founders' own landscape construction business, where finding and renting equipment was slow and opaque. It connected contractors needing machines with rental companies holding idle fleet, later adding insurance and operators. Erin Stephenson told the TechWaterloo audience in 2016 that the hard part was not the software but the habit: contractors call the person on speed dial, and a marketplace has to fit around that. RBC petitioned the company into receivership in September 2025 after a default on a credit facility, and the assets were sold on 31 October 2025 to Inspiration Commerce Group. The platform continues under the DOZR name and new ownership.
Backers
Reported to include Builders VC, BDC Capital and BaseCamp Equity Partners in a $27.5M CAD Series B in February 2022; the round is widely reported but could not be confirmed on a retrievable page

Quick answers
What did DOZR do?
It ran an online marketplace for renting heavy equipment — excavators, lifts, loaders, rollers — connecting contractors with rental companies across Canada and the United States.
What happened to DOZR?
RBC petitioned it into receivership in September 2025 after it defaulted on a credit facility of about $3.4M CAD. KPMG was appointed receiver and the assets were sold on 31 October 2025 to Inspiration Commerce Group.
Is the platform still running?
Yes, under new ownership and the same name. Rental Equipment Register reported in December 2025 that tens of millions of dollars remained unpaid to rental suppliers after the sale.
