CarDoor

CarDoor is an Ontario online used-car retailer that carries no inventory of its own: it sells partner dealers' vehicles to buyers who would rather transact online, and buys cars back from consumers to restock those same dealers.

About

CarDoor was founded in Toronto in 2021 by Mark Eleoff and Matt McKenzie, and raised a $3M seed round led by Framework Venture Partners that September. It runs two channels. On the retail side it takes digital spend, attracts buyers who will not walk into a dealership, and facilitates the whole sale — earning on financing, insurance, warranties and service rather than on the metal. On the wholesale side it buys vehicles from private sellers and places them back into the dealer network. VP of operations Scott Brown pitched the company as a Rocketship nominee at Together Toronto in September 2025, nominated by Framework.

Quick answers

What does CarDoor do?

It sells used cars online in Ontario without owning them, listing partner dealers' inventory and handling the transaction, and separately buying vehicles from consumers to sell back into the dealer network.

Who founded CarDoor?

Mark Eleoff and Matt McKenzie, in Toronto in 2021. Eleoff is chief executive and chair.

How does the asset-light model work?

Scott Brown said on stage that carrying 2,800 vehicles as a traditional dealer would tie up around a hundred million dollars of inventory; CarDoor has access to sell them while carrying none, and makes its margin on financing, insurance, warranties and service.
