About

Esplanade Ventures was founded and seeded by Dr. Sheldon Elman, a physician of forty years' practice and co-founder of Persistence Capital Partners, with Stuart M. Elman. The firm invests at seed to Series A, occasionally Series B, in digital health and healthcare IT — AI-enabled software that reaches patients or clinicians directly, explicitly excluding biotech and invasive devices — and backs companies commercialising in North America, with earlier funds also covering Europe and Israel. Its first fund, Esplanade HealthTech Ventures I, closed oversubscribed at more than C$21 million in June 2021 with Desjardins Group among its investors, and had made 13 investments by that July. The portfolio now lists 22 companies, including binah.ai, Cleerly, Rad AI, Sana Health, Wellth and Neura Health. Ella Seitz, now managing partner, joined TechTO's HealthTO panel in August 2025 on what health-tech founders need from investors and how AI is changing what gets funded.
