About
Esri Canada sells and builds on ArcGIS, the geographic information system used by governments, utilities, retailers and planners to answer questions that turn on location. Alex Miller founded it in Toronto in 1984 with Mary-Charlotte Miller and is still president. Its own 2023 announcement counts more than 14,000 organisations served from 15 offices nationally.
In September 2023 it acquired Ratio.City, the Toronto urban-analytics platform that told developers and planners what could actually be built on a given site. The stated purpose was housing: folding site-level feasibility into Esri Canada's community-planning products to speed the design and approval of affordable housing. Ratio.City now runs as a division of Esri Canada.
Monika Jaroszonek co-founded Ratio.City in 2017 with Erin Morrow after 15 years as an architect, and is now Managing Director, Planning & Housing at Esri Canada. She demoed Ratio on the TechTO stage in March 2018.
