About

Post-acute admissions is a paperwork bottleneck. A nursing home receives a referral as an unstructured packet β€” often by fax β€” and someone has to read it, decide whether the facility can safely take the patient, and answer before a competitor does. ExaCare AI collapses that: it pulls referrals from hospital portals, referral platforms and eFax into a single inbox, reads the full clinical documentation against the facility's own admission criteria, and surfaces the risks and deal-breakers rather than leaving them buried. Laird Russell co-founded the company in 2022. He had played Division I hockey at Brown University until repeated traumatic brain injuries ended it, and spent three and a half years navigating medical care afterwards β€” the experience he credits for seeing where the delays actually sit. He had previously co-founded Galea Health, a mental-health platform for athletes, and worked at Goldman Sachs and Bain. ExaCare raised $6.5 million in early 2024 and a $30 million Series A in October 2025 led by Insight Partners, with Foundation Capital and Bienville Capital. It says it now serves more than 1,500 facilities. Russell spoke at TechTO's Health Toronto in November 2025.

Backers

Insight Partners led the $30 million Series A in October 2025, with Foundation Capital, Bienville Capital and a group of post-acute operators. An earlier $6.5 million round was announced in February 2024.

Quick answers

What does ExaCare AI do?

It automates admissions for skilled nursing and home care providers. Referrals arrive as unstructured packets from hospital portals, referral platforms and fax; ExaCare consolidates them into one inbox and reads the clinical documentation against the facility's own criteria, flagging risk and readiness so a placement decision takes minutes rather than hours.

Who founded ExaCare AI?

Laird Russell, who is chief executive, in 2022. He had co-founded Galea Health, a proactive mental-health platform for athletes, and worked at Goldman Sachs and Bain & Company. He describes himself as a co-founder, so there is at least one more; funding databases that appear to name a second Russell are splitting his own full name, Laird Braedan Russell, into two people, and the one trade report that names someone else could not be verified, so no second name is given here.

How much has ExaCare AI raised?

A $30 million Series A led by Insight Partners in October 2025, with Foundation Capital, Bienville Capital and several post-acute operators, following a $6.5 million round announced in February 2024.

Where is ExaCare AI based?

New York. Its founder spoke at TechTO's Health Toronto event in November 2025.
