About

Examine.com exists because supplement marketing and supplement evidence are two different things. The site reads the trials, grades the strength of the evidence, and publishes what it finds regardless of who sells the product — which is only possible because it takes no advertising and no industry money. Orwell built it past seven figures of annual revenue with a small team of contractors and no outside investment, a decision he explained on the TechToronto stage in February 2016: he had turned down every investor who approached him, on the grounds that taking the money would replace one boss with another. The site is now led by Kamal Patel with a staff of scientists, editors and peer reviewers, and Orwell has stepped back from day-to-day operations.

Backers

None. Self-funded from revenue; Orwell says he turned down every investor who approached.
