About

Flexday started from a simple mismatch: restaurants that only open for dinner sit empty all day, and people working from coffee shops cannot reliably get a seat or a power outlet. Founder Justin Raymond — who had earlier launched the taxi-hailing app Hailo in Canada — built a service that partners with those restaurants, installs enterprise-grade wi-fi, guarantees a power outlet within reach of every seat and includes unlimited coffee and tea, with members booking a spot through an app. Two team members demoed it at TechTO in July 2018 when the company was less than a year old, pitching it against both the coffee shop and the cost of Toronto commercial real estate. Retail Insider and the Toronto Guardian covered the model as a way to use under-utilized retail space. The company has since moved up-market: it now sells Flexday Suites — full private offices with bookable meeting rooms, priced by the day or by the month — alongside the day-pass workspace it started with.
