Flipcash

Flipcash is a payments app that tries to make digital money behave like physical cash: you hand it over by having someone scan a code, with no phone numbers, accounts or fees. It is built on Solana by Code Inc., the company Kik founder Ted Livingston started in 2021.

About

Flipcash is Ted Livingston's third act after Kik and Kin. The premise is narrow and stated plainly on its own site: physical cash is fast, needs no phone number or email, and has no learning curve, and the app is an attempt to keep those properties in a digital form. Balances are held in regulated US-dollar stablecoins and transfers between users carry no fee; the app runs in 170 countries on iOS and Android. In 2025 Flipcash became the first company to use Coinbase's custom stablecoin platform, launching USDF on Solana as the currency its reserve holds. The product has since widened: anyone can create a community currency, minted at a fixed 21 million coins deposited into an on-chain reserve that buys and sells against a fixed pricing curve, holds USDF as backing, and — the company says — always holds enough to buy back the full circulating supply. The reserve contract is open source and was audited by the security firm Sec3. Tanner Philp, who presented at TechTO's FintechTO in 2017 while at Kik, is chief operating officer of both Code and Flipcash.
