About
Gameloft was among the first studios to put real games on mobile phones — its own site dates that to 2000 — and it has stayed a mobile-first publisher ever since. The best-known franchise is the Asphalt racing series, which reached its 20th anniversary in 2025; the catalogue also includes licensed work such as Disney Magic Kingdoms and Carmen Sandiego. The company reports 61 games in its portfolio, an average 4.4-star launch rating, and distribution across more than 120 countries.
Michel Guillemot founded the company in December 1999. Vivendi ran a hostile bid for it in February 2016 and completed the takeover that June, after which Guillemot stepped down and moved to Ubisoft, the company he had co-founded with his brothers.
Gameloft's production is spread across ten studios — Barcelona, Brisbane, Bucharest, Hanoi, Montreal, Paris, Saigon, Sofia, Ukraine and Yogyakarta — with more than 2,900 staff. Casey Campbell, who runs North America for the publisher, brought that business to TechTO's MarketingTO stage in October 2019 to make the case that gaming is the largest entertainment industry there is.
Backers
A subsidiary of Vivendi, which took control through a hostile tender offer completed in June 2016. Gameloft had previously been listed in Paris and controlled by the Guillemot family.
