About
Arati Sharma spent roughly eight years at Shopify building experiential and product marketing; Satish Kanwar co-founded the design studio Jet Cooper, which Shopify acquired in 2013, and led product there for a decade. Good Future is what they built afterwards, and it is deliberately not a fund with a sector thesis: the firm says its thesis is entirely about people, and that support sometimes means capital and sometimes means listening. The structure spans a micro venture fund, a philanthropic foundation and businesses it owns outright. In November 2023 it became BetaKit's majority shareholder, with Kanwar taking the chair of its board; the pair were also among the local leaders who launched Toronto Tech Week. Sharma is a founding partner of Backbone Angels, the collective of women Shopify alumni investing in women, women of colour and non-binary founders. Both have spoken at TechTO — Kanwar in 2015 on building product at Shopify, Sharma in 2021 on founding fundamentals for women and founders of colour.
