About

Hootsuite started as an internal tool at Holmes's Vancouver agency for managing several client social accounts at once, and became one of the first Canadian software companies to reach global consumer recognition. By his 2020 TechVancouver appearance it had around 2,000 employees, 18 million customers and 800 of the Fortune 500 as clients. Holmes stepped back from the CEO role in 2020 and moved to the board. He returned as interim CEO in April 2026, replacing Irina Novoselsky, saying the company sits at a turning point because of AI and will focus its investment there. The company employs about 1,000 people worldwide.

Backers

Historically backed by Insight Partners, Accel and Fidelity across its growth rounds; the company is private and does not publish a current cap table.
