About

Hyfer Technologies describes itself as a digital transformation lab — a consultancy building web and mobile software, with digital marketing alongside it, and its own products on the side. Asscky was one of those products. It put a map in front of you showing the message boards active around you: join one, read the location-specific questions already posted, drop a pin of your own and let anyone in the board reply to it. Private boards worked off a short board code you handed to the people you wanted in, and moderation ran on a peer-issued badge system — collect enough and you lost access to boards that had switched it on. The founders pitched it at university campuses first, on the reasoning that dense populations are what a location-based board needs to feel alive, and demoed it live at TechTO in October 2017 by opening a board for the room. Asscky is still listed among Hyfer's products; its own domain no longer resolves.

Quick answers

What is Hyfer Technologies?

An Ontario web and mobile development consultancy founded in 2016, which calls itself a digital transformation lab. It builds software for clients and also ships its own apps — Asscky, Easy Strikes and Trade With Borders.

What was Asscky?

A location-based messaging app. A map showed the boards active around you; inside a board you could read location-specific posts, drop your own pin and get replies. Private boards were joined with a short board code, and users could issue each other moderation badges that locked repeat offenders out.

Why does the TechTO archive list this talk under "Haifa Technologies"?

Speech-to-text. The archive's speaker label was generated from the audio and garbled both names — "Hyfer" became "Haifa" and "Heshan" became "he Sheehan". TechTO's own video description names Hyfer Technologies, and hyfertech.com lists Asscky among its products, which settles it.
