About
Gary LeBlanc, a McGill engineering and MBA graduate who spent six years as a vice-president at Bacardi, built Ikkuma around his book Ikkuma: The Evolution of Vitality. The company has taken two forms: a consumer line of organic, non-GMO functional beverages and supplements, and IkkumaLife, a cloud-based SaaS platform that Innovobot partnered on in 2018 to help organisations build workplace community using gratitude prompts, team challenges, leaderboards, experience points and real-time analytics. Its beverage Zero dB is a cannabis-free carbonated drink using plant extracts that contain cannabinoids. LeBlanc brought the argument behind all of it to HealthTO in February 2019: that distraction is the underlying pathology in a room full of technologists, that mind-wandering makes people measurably less happy, and that the connections sacrificed to being permanently on a device are the actual health cost. He was, he noted, an odd person to be making a health argument, having spent six years as a VP at an alcohol company.
