About

Joist began as an internal iPad app at a windshield-repair company before its founders pivoted into building software for trades contractors, launching the product in 2013. The free app let contractors create on-site estimates and invoices and collect payments, later adding credit-card payments and homeowner financing. After moving from Winnipeg to Toronto and a period of over-expansion around a homeowner marketplace it later shut down, Joist refocused on its core contractor product and was acquired by Colorado-based EverCommerce in 2020. It continues to operate as a Joist-branded EverCommerce product.

Backers

Raised a seed round from Golden Ventures and a $12M Series A led by Matrix Partners before its acquisition by EverCommerce.
